Valencia wins first game of the season, Getafe bears a loss

Valencia beat Getafe 1-0 in the opening game of the Spanish La Liga 2021/22 season.

Valencia’s home ground, the Mestala Stadium, was crowded with about 10,000 spectators, with the 10-man home side winning over the 10-man visiting team. Valencia defender Hugo Guillaume received a straight red card in the third minute of the first half.

The home team was limited to 10 players in the opening minutes of the match and took the lead in the 11th minute. Midfielder Carlos Solar scored from the penalty spot to give Valencia the lead.

Valencia managed to keep only 26 percent ball possession in the game and hit only 4 shots. Getafe, who had 22 shots in the game with 74 percent of the ball in his possession, could not score. Getafe failed to equalize in the 76th minute after receiving a double yellow card from the visitors’ defender Eric Kaba. With this victory, Valencia has made a winning start in La Liga.

There is a three-game schedule in La Liga on Saturday, with Real Madrid taking on Alave at 1:45 am. Real want to make a winning start by winning the game at Deportivo Alves.
