Corona’s third wave: Increased infection among children in the US and UK

Experts are warning that the third wave of Corona may come to Nepal on which children are expected to be most affected. In the United States and the United Kingdom, such estimates have come true. Corona infections are now more prevalent in children in the United States and the United Kingdom than in the first or second wave. Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Florida have the highest rates of infection among children under the age of 18.

The number of children admitted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital due to infection has increased by nearly 50 percent. At the hospital, seven newborns are in ICU and two are on ventilators. Louisiana had the highest number of infections at 4,232 in the last week of July. A total of 66 children under the age of five were infected between July 15 and 21.

According to the Florida Department of Health, 10,785 people under the age of 12 have been infected. The infection has been seen in 11 thousand 48 children between the ages of 12 to 19 years. An average of 40 children’s are hospitalized every day in the UK.

The danger to the child did not diminish
Corona was the leading cause of infant mortality in the United States in 2020. According to Professor Adam Finn, a paediatrician at the University of Bristol, the risk of corona infection in children has not diminished. ‘My friend says he is seeing an infected child in the hospital. But the number is very low. It is clear that this wave is somewhat different from the previous two waves. ‘

Dr Elizabeth Whitker, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Imperial College London, also said that the rate of infection among children under the age of 12 has increased in the United States and the United Kingdom.
