The government has decided to appoint Kulman Ghising as the executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority. A cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to appoint Ghising and he is likely to be reinstated today, sources said.
The cabinet meeting has decided to appoint Ghising as the executive director of NEA and transfer the current executive director Hitendra Dev Shakya to the Water and Energy Commission. According to NEA sources, Shakya reached NEA yesterday and took leave after meeting the departmental head informally.
Kulman’s popularity had increased after he had achieved remarkable success in controlling electricity leakage with the end of load shedding while he was in the leadership of NEA. He also established NEA as the most profitable institution. In August 2077, Kulman left the authority after completing his four-year term. However, Energy Minister Pampha Bhusal was preparing to appoint Kulman as the executive director after the question was raised that the leakage could not be controlled, the tariff of dedicated and trunk line could not be collected from the businessmen.
A few days ago, the current executive director of NEA, Shakya, had said that he would accept another responsibility given by the government in a proper manner. Despite pressure from the previous KP Sharma Oli government to reinstate Kulman as NEA’s executive director, he was not re-elected.
