Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has bid farewell to Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa. Thapa reached the Vice President’s residence at 9 am on Tuesday for the farewell meeting.
Thapa also took Prabhu Ram Sharma, the acting chief of staff, to meet the Vice President. Chief of Army Staff Thapa’s three-year term is coming to an end on September 8.
As he will be on leave a month before the end of his term, Sharma has been given the responsibility of acting Chief of Army Staff. After Thapa retires, Sharma will automatically become the Chief of Army Staff.
During the meeting, Vice President Pun praised Thapa for his contribution to the democratization and modernization of the Nepal Army, according to his secretariat. Vice President Pun also wished good luck to Sharma, who is about to become the Chief of Army Staff.
