Marcel Jacobs of Italy has become the fastest runner in the world.
Marcel won the gold medal in the men’s 100 m at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.
Usain Bolt of Jamaica had won gold in three consecutive Olympics. He retired after the last Rio Olympics. Bolt holds the world record with 9.58 seconds and the Olympic record with 9.63 seconds.
In the final on Sunday, Marcel won the gold medal with a time of 9.8 seconds. Fred Kerley of the United States won the silver medal in 9.84 seconds and Andre de Grasse of Canada won the bronze medal in 9.89 seconds.
South Africa’s Akani Simbain, currently ranked second in the world, finished fourth. Justin Gatlin, currently ranked first in the world, did not participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
