As Everest Premier League continues to lure big names, another big name has been associated with Nepal’s biggest Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament.
Shahid Afridi! Yes, you heard it right. Pakistan’s former allrounder Shahid Afridi is confirmed to play this year’s edition of the EPL scheduled for September 25 to October 9.
Kathmandu Kings XI, one of the six franchises participating in the tournament, unveiled Afridi on Monday as their big signing for this season. Kings XI had also roped in Sri Lanka allrounder Farvez Maharoof and Irish star Kevin O’Brien in previous editions.
Afridi, the ferocious hitter with the bat who held the record of fastest One Day International century (37-ball 100 against Sri Lanka) for a long time, has played a huge amount of franchise cricket after retiring internationally.
The 41-year old brings the experience of playing across the globe including stints in the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League to name a few.
Afridi has played 398 ODIs, 99 Twenty20 Internationals, and 27 Tests for Pakistan.
Previously, big names like South African duo AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla, West Indies Twenty20 legend Chris Gayle were associated with the tournament.
However, since the tournament now clashes with the remainder of the 2021 Indian Premier League and Twenty20 World Cup, the availability of De Villiers and Gayle remains uncertain.
